Closure after an abusive relationship?

So my bf and I were together for almost 3 years. We have been on and off for a while. He's done sneaky things behind my back, but not sure about cheating. Although he has talked to girls. So we decided to end our relationship. He's always abused me physically, verbally, and emotionally. Our families don't know each other either. I feel horrible because I keep calling him (He made me change my number, but he wont change his) He's leaving to go home to his home country soon and he kept telling me to "shape up" or else hes going to get married there. I'm so confused guys. Idk what to do? do i fight to stay with him by following his rules (i.e. him telling me what to do, setting guidelines, on places where i can or can't go etc) or should I just leave it the way it is,... the only part im messing up on is the fact that I keep calling him. Im really upset because...we broke up about 2 weeks ago 'cause i watched porn and he didnt like that, and he ended it with me. and Then he called me back afew days later saying he was diagnosed with herpes. I told him i would stick by his side no matter what, and he started talking about marriage. We went for a 2nd round of tests, and both of us came back negative for herpes today, and he just gave up on our relationship cause of a fight we had.
